Albany Board of Education District's 2018-2019 Budget Proposal


The City School District of Albany Board of Education has two meetings scheduled to make final decisions about the district’s 2018-19 budget proposal.

The board will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Thursday at 7 p.m. Both meetings will be at Albany High School; Tuesday’s meeting is dedicated to budget discussions only.

Please also note that the budget vote this year will be accompanied by school board elections. There are three seats up for election this year. The May 15 ballot also will include a separate proposal to create a new Capital Reserve Fund that would be used for future facilities projects.

City of Albany Seeks Input for New Permanent Police Chief

Albany, NY - The City of Albany is seeking community input to help select a permanent Police Chief to lead the Albany Police Department. The City of Albany, along with a national search firm, Public Sector Search & Consulting, Inc., will host a series of community forums to provide Albany residents with an opportunity to share their thoughts on the personal characteristics and professional experience that are most important for the individual leading the Albany Police Department.
 
“The Albany Police Department is a national leader in advancing critical public safety initiatives that build trust within our diverse community,” said Mayor Kathy Sheehan. “As we seek to select a new Police Chief, we are committed to listening to all our residents. Input from Albany neighborhoods is critical to helping recruit and select the right Chief. My hope is that residents will come to a forum to ensure their voices are heard.”
 
The community forums have been scheduled as follows:
•     Sunday, April 15 – 3:00pm-5:00pm at the Capital South Campus Center Community Rooms (20 Warren Street)
•     Monday, April 16 – 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Albany Public Library Washington Avenue Branch Community Room (161 Washington Avenue)
•     Tuesday, April 17 – 2:00pm-4:00pm at the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Community Center (340 Whitehall Road)

Youth FX World Premiere Screening: April 19th & April 24th

Albany's award winning Youth FX program will host the World Premiere of our 2018 short films on Thursday April 19th @ 7pm at the Landmark's Spectrum 8 Theatres. There will also be an encore screening on April 24th @ 7pm***

Both screenings will feature short narrative films and documentaries and will be followed by a Q & A with the filmmakers and program directors.

City of Albany Commission on Human Rights  Annual Recognition Reception honoring those individuals and organizations within the City of Albany who best exemplify the Commission’s objective of fostering a climate of mutual respect, tolerance and understanding among all groups living and working in the City.
 
This year's honorees are the South End Children's Cafe, Mrs. Nell Stokes, and Family Promise of the Capital Region.
 
The Reception will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 in the Rotunda of City Hall from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
