Camp WaWa Segowea in the Birkshires is holding open houses on Sunday afternoons, Sunday May 20 and also June 3, 10 and 17. Folks in the neighborhood will be going out for the June dates to volunteer, rides are available for interested campers or families. Camping at WaWa has been a wonderful experience for many neighborhood kids, including ours, and many have gone on to serve as counselors and staff, and are still involved. For the past three summers the camp has been operated by the Capital District Y, and is growing rapidly. The information is at www.segowea.org. People find this is a smaller, very friendly and very diverse experience than many sleep-away camps. Also, there has been a lot of fundnraising for scholarships, so this can be a very affordable choice. For information about rides contact Tom McPheeters at 51433-0679 or email tom@grandarts.org or Nancy at (nancyalfs@yahoo.com).

Community Garden: ...have a few plots open in some gardens in the area (like Pearl and the Arthur T. Scott sites), looking for community members to take advantage of fresh, healthy produce for the season! Contact Mary Vickeman 518-274-8685 or outreach@cdcg.org

Nick, the Healthy Convenience Store Coordinator, was looking into additional corner stores in the South End. If you have any suggestions or ideas, Community Garden would love to hear your input.

South End Improvement Corporation (SEIC) will participate in the Freihofer’s Community Walk. It’s an event which helps raise the visibility of non-profits and provides an easy way to fund raise. Your assistance is needed to to solicit sponsors and recruit walkers. Donations can be made online through Freihofer’s community portal which is connected to the SEIC PayPal account, or by via cash or check.

Pastor Brian Johnson uses Fr. Young's location on 2nd for his ministry. He is interested in purchasing The UCC Church, and getting more involved with the neighborhood.
