Cosmetology Lab at John Howe Library

Come learn about the history and science of cosmetology, learn new techniques, and create your own natural hair care products! In partnership with Ms. Lakisha Foy, professional licensed cosmetologist and natural haircare specialist, and RPI, tweens and teens engaged in this 9-week program will explore natural hair care and braiding as a pathway for future STEM innovations. Previous participants in this program have gone on to create and sell their own products following this program; there is no limit to what you can achieve! Shift Supervisor Position (Residential and Commercial)

Pay Scale: $12.50 per hour to start, $13.00 per hour for 6 months of good reviews and progress and $13.50 per hour after a year of good reviews and increased responsibility.

Duties, Functions and Tasks: Trained by manager for all job duties listed below

• Responsible for overall client satisfaction
• Responsible for OTJ training of new employees
• Responsible for disciplinary action in the field amongst cleaning techs
• Responsible for account inspections, each account 2x/month
• Must update account inspection notes promptly (by the end of the next business day)
• In charge of moving paper products to appropriate sites
• Handles all paperwork to sign out paper products, serves as the liaison between the field and the office
• Fill in for absent employees
• Organize labor in the field, move team members around as necessary when absences occur
• Performance reviews for cleaning techs
• Actively recruit for employees
• Learn and perform floor cleaning tasks as necessary
• Communicate often and thoroughly with manager to provide updates regarding any personnel, disciplinary situations, successes in the field, ideas for improving processes, etc.
• Communicate clearly with cleaning techs regarding any changes in company policies, processes, etc.
• Discuss the plan of attack to obtain new accounts with your Manager
• Set up new accounts

SECURITY OFFICER, 2ND AND 3RD SHIFT
The College of Saint Rose is a dynamic institution of higher education, enrolling more

 JOB SUMMARY: Maintain the safety and security of campus employees, students, and facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  Patrol campus and perimeter on foot, bicycle and by motor vehicle while maintaining radio contact with campus security dispatcher.

 Enforce College regulations and correct parking conditions

 Remove safety hazards

 Maintain security of all buildings and members of campus community

 Inspect assigned buildings on each tour for conditions of door locks, fire exit signs, and windows

 Inspect all exterior and security lighting and checks for illegal entry on all night tours

 Respond to calls and participate in investigations of incidents as needed

 Provides comprehensive notes and summaries to the Computerized Incident Reporting System, Dispatcher's Daily Log and Card Access system as required by department procedures.

 Conducts resident alarm checks and fire drills during semester

 Provide security escort for students, staff, and faculty to and from campus buildings

 Answer calls when assigned dispatch duty

 Issue parking tickets

 Direct patrons to appropriate parking during special events

 Provide access to locked facilities on campus

 Maintain constant communication with the Security Dispatcher while on duty

 Provide courier service to Bursar and Business Offices

 Follows established college policies and procedures, including the timely use of email to routinely communicate with supervisor and others as required, time reporting procedures, and equipment check in/check out during shift.



REQUIREMENTS:
  High School graduate/or GED required

 A valid NYS Security Guard license is required at the time of hire

 Ability to walk extensively across multiple areas of campus up to 5 miles/day, as well as standing for long periods of time is required.

 Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, lifts, as well as occasionally reach, stoop, crouch, sit, and kneel.

 A valid NYS driver's license, with no more than 2 moving violation convictions and/or accidents within the past 40 months required.

 Associates Degree in Criminal Justice preferred

 Six months previous experience in a security enforcement position preferred

 First Aid/ CPR /AED certification is preferred; if not certified, must complete required on the job training and obtain CPR certification.

 Familiarity with key systems and fire alarms is preferred

 Ability to interact in a service oriented and professional manner with members of the campus community and general public.

The board will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Thursday at 7 p.m. Both meetings will be at Albany High School; Tuesday’s meeting is dedicated to budget discussions only.

City of Albany Seeks Input for New Permanent Police Chief

Albany, NY - The City of Albany is seeking community input to help select a permanent Police Chief to lead the Albany Police Department. The City of Albany, along with a national search firm, Public Sector Search & Consulting, Inc., will host a series of community forums to provide Albany residents with an opportunity to share their thoughts on the personal characteristics and professional experience that are most important for the individual leading the Albany Police Department.

 

“The Albany Police Department is a national leader in advancing critical public safety initiatives that build trust within our diverse community,” said Mayor Kathy Sheehan. “As we seek to select a new Police Chief, we are committed to listening to all our residents. Input from Albany neighborhoods is critical to helping recruit and select the right Chief. My hope is that residents will come to a forum to ensure their voices are heard.”

 

The community forums have been scheduled as follows:

•     Sunday, April 15 – 3:00pm-5:00pm at the Capital South Campus Center Community Rooms (20 Warren Street)

•     Monday, April 16 – 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Albany Public Library Washington Avenue Branch Community Room (161 Washington Avenue)

•     Tuesday, April 17 – 2:00pm-4:00pm at the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Community Center (340 Whitehall Road)

Youth FX World Premiere Screening: April 19th & April 24th

Albany's award winning Youth FX program will host the World Premiere of our 2018 short films on Thursday April 19th @ 7pm at the Landmark's Spectrum 8 Theatres. There will also be an encore screening on April 24th @ 7pm***

Both screenings will feature short narrative films and documentaries and will be followed by a Q & A with the filmmakers and program directors.

City of Albany Commission on Human Rights  Annual Recognition Reception honoring those individuals and organizations within the City of Albany who best exemplify the Commission’s objective of fostering a climate of mutual respect, tolerance and understanding among all groups living and working in the City.

 

This year's honorees are the South End Children's Cafe, Mrs. Nell Stokes, and Family Promise of the Capital Region.
